Description | Text: Sunday afternoon, October 10th. Dear Cal -- I have been intending to write you ever since our visit a few weeks ago. A combination of scholarly endeavor and personal chaos has been the major obstacle in my doing so. Not only was our visit too brief, I was unable at that time, for reasons that will become obvious, to "fill you in" on what has been happening with me. That has changed slightly in the interim, but let me proceed with a few details. I've been under a great deal of stress since mid-July due to problems Tommy and I were having in our relationship. His room-mate during his last 5-6 months in Norfolk turned out to be his lover. The relationship, he said, began as purely sexual and developed into an emotional attachment only after he moved back here in July. Up until the first of August I was totally ignorant of the situation. After he moved to Ashburn he became increasingly cool and even secretive. I finally confronted him with my "insight" that something was amiss. He then told me about the fellow in Norfolk and said he didn't know what his feelings for me were. I took him to Athens to stay with our friend John and went to Nashville to sort things out. I decided that I would not be so rigid as to rule out |
