Scope and Contents of the Papers
The Charles S. Tigerman Papers contain legal documents and notes, 1975-1995, chronologically arranged and organized in two series. Series I, Johnny Mercer Estate, focuses on several transactions on behalf of the Estate of John H. Mercer. The legal transactions focus on the copyright and sale of many of Johnny Mercer's songs, 1976-1980. The papers included are an appraisal of the catalogue, correspondence, legal documents, and notes regarding the sale of copyright, appraisal of the catalogue, and pleadings regarding copyright. Several folders are dedicated to newspaper clippings, biographies, promotional flyers, newsletters, correspondence, and a few other promotional publications regarding press coverage of Johnny Mercer's festivals and other events, 1994-1995. Additionally, long excerpts of Mercer's autobiography are included. Series II, Ginger Mercer Estate, includes documents related to the estate of Mercer's widow, Elizabeth Meltzer Mercer, 1977-1994.
Biography of Charles S. Tigerman
Charles S. Tigerman is a practicing attorney with Mindlin and Tigerman Law Firm located in Los Angeles, California. He represents composers and lyricists and in the sale of compositions and catalogues. He actively serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Johnny Mercer Foundation (www.johnnymercerfoundation.org). He has participated in representing the Estate of John H. Mercer and Mercer's widow, Ginger (Elizabeth Meltzer Mercer).
