Scope and Contents of the Collection
Iowa State Council of Machinists collection contains minutes of the council, October 1952, and an agreement between IAM Harmony Lodge 831 and Universal Crusher Company (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), March 1942, in photocopied form, as well as correspondence related to the documents and brochures for the John L. Lewis Memorial Museum of Mining and Labor (Lucas, Iowa), 1995.
Historical Note about the Iowa State Council of Machinists
The Iowa State Council of Machinists, made up of representatives of the districts and lodges of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in the state of Iowa, formed in 1939. Labor leader John L. Lewis (1880-1969) was born near Lucas, Iowa, and the nonprofit John L. Lewis Commission operates a museum, library, and historic sites in the area.
