Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Georgia Labor Management Conference collection documents the governance of the organization and planning of its annual conferences, 1990s-2000s. The collection includes conference and workshop materials and booklets, notes, meeting minutes and agendas, financial reports and documents including fundraising information and budgets, and correspondence. Philip Laporte, who was involved with the Conference as an administrator in Georgia State University's Labor Studies Program, assembled the records.


Historical Note

Established in 1990, Georgia Labor Management Conference has the mission to enhance productivity and quality at the workplace through cooperation and mutual respect between labor and management. The Conference is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of five labor representatives, five management representatives, a representative from Georgia State University's Labor Studies Program, a labor law attorney, and a representative of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Board of Directors consists of a President, the Board Chair, the Financial Secretary and a Recording Secretary. The Chair and President rotate annually between Labor and Management. Philip LaPorte served as Assistant Director and Director of the Labor Studies Program at Georgia State University and had a longstanding involvement with the governance of the Georgia Labor Management Conference.
