Scope and Content of the Collection

The collection of Jesse Walton, 1949-1950, contains clippings and a few leaves of correspondence describing the Atlanta Transit Union, Local 732 strikes, 1949-1950, the Southern Railway Strike, 1950 and Atlanta's reaction to the strikes. It also covers Walton's political contest against Hoke Smith in 1950. Included are clippings on the other major strikes in the South.


History of Jesse Walton

Jesse Walton was the president of Atlanta Transit Union, 1945-1951, a member of the Georgia General Assembly and established the transportation system at Oak Ridge, TN in the 1940s.
