Hoyt Pruitt was a dobro player, although
he also played straight guitar and sang, and was actively involved in Atlanta's
country music radio scene, appearing on various programs, including "Fulton
County Jamboree" on WJTL and WAGA's "Dixie Fun Barn" in 1939-40 and 1946-48.
His papers contain newsclippings relating to his career in the 1960s, and
nineteen photographs of him and other country music figures.
Scope and Content of the Papers
The manuscript portion of these papers consists of one folder of
photocopied newsclippings relating to Hoyt Pruitt's career in the 1960s. The
nineteen photographs include an image of a handbill advertising a 1948 show in
which Pruitt appeared, and images of Pruitt and other country music
Biography of Hoyt Pruitt
Hoyt Lokey Pruitt, born March 4, 1924 in Cedartown, Georgia, was a
dobro player, although he also played straight guitar and sang. Among the
groups with whom he performed were Pappy Slats's Kentucky Mountaineers, the
Blue Ridge Mountain Boys, and the Stone Mountain Boys. Pruitt was actively
involved in Atlanta's country music radio scene, appearing on various programs,
including "Fulton County Jamboree" on WJTL and WAGA's "Dixie Fun Barn" in
1939-40 and 1946-48. With Pappy Slats and the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys, Pruitt
worked on WGST and WTJH, respectively. For further information see Wayne
