Abstract:Beth Farokhi worked as an administrator in the College of Education at Georgia State University (GSU). She was a member of and held multiple elected positions within the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Farokhi was one of the co-principal investigators for Integrating Gender Equity and Reform (InGEAR) in higher education, a grant-funded initiative. Her papers, 1937, 1976-2007, document her GSU career, AAUW service, and the development and funding of InGEAR.

Scope and Contents of the Papers

The Beth Farokhi papers, 1937, 1976-2007, consist of correspondence, meeting minutes and records, training materials, articles, reports, convention materials, speeches, newsletters, awards, and audio visual materials, documenting her work with the American Association for University Women (AAUW), the Integrating Gender Equity and Reform (InGEAR) program, and her professional work at Georgia State University (GSU). The first series AAUW, 1937, 1976-2006, consists of membership, leadership, campaigns, meeting minutes, personal notes, correspondences, newsletters, annual meeting participation, presentations, articles and columns written. The second series containing the InGEAR program materials, 1976-2002, which include developement and funding, surveys, budgets, grant proposals, meeting minutes, presentations, self-studies and evaluations. The third series focuses on Faroki's professional work at GSU and includes correspondence, presentations, articles, programs she created for women at GSU, teacher certification tests, resumes and research papers. The final two series contain audiovisual materials as well as floppy discs and a photograph, and artifacts such as stickers and awards.


Biography of Beth Farokhi

Dr. Beth Farokhi worked in the field of education for over forty years. She earned her doctorate (Ed.D.) in higher education from the University of Georgia, a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Emory University, and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Elementary Education and Health and Physical Education from LaGrange College. She began her career as a teacher in Cobb County, Georgia. After completing her doctorate, Farokhi worked at Georgia State University as an administrator in the College of Education for twenty-four years, coordinating curriculum development for over fifty degree programs.

Farokhi was a co-principal investigator for a multimillion dollar National Science Foundation collaborative of five Georgia colleges and universities which focused on Integrating Gender Equity and Reform in higher education (InGEAR). She has several publications, made numerous presentations across the country, and has received numerous awards and recognitions. In addition, she created the Georgia State University Leadership Academy for Women, a year-long program focused on professional and personal skill development for women staff. Farokhi's leadership in the field of education outside of her duties at Georgia State University included the creation of an international newsletter, the "Educational Equity Report" which she edited for thirteen years. In 2004, GSU honored her for exemplary, longtime service and dedication.

Farokhi served as executive vice president-secretary of the American Association of University Women for four years as well as two terms as South Atlantic regional director. In addition, Farokhi served two years on the national board of the Legal Advocacy Fund and served on the National Advisory Board for Gender Inclusion for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. She was a part of the founding Curriculum Advisory Board and the Strategic Planning Committee for the Atlanta Girls School and served as the Chair of the Education Committee for Georgia Federation of Democratic Women. The Cobb County Democratic Women honored Farokhi with the Educator of the Year award in 2014.
